Oyster Heart

Oyster Heart

Inside the oyster shell –

is loneliness at heart; the gold-breathing

space, within the guarded vault.

The comfort zone. The fear

of the unfamiliar. The fear of love.

The love of fear.

Outside the oyster –

is chaos and pain and death

and change. Time will grow you

up and grow you old; and

change you. Change will hurt you.

Hurt will change you.

The shell’s around you

beside you

above you

beneath you

beyond you

before you; the oyster

is you. And you choose

what breaks your heart.

You choose what breaks

your heart.
